Angry Birds maker Rovio may lay off up to 130 employees as it begins to restructure its business because of slowed growth. The potential layoffs represent around 16 percent of Rovio’s employees and will come from unstated departments at its Finland headquarters. “It is never easy to consider changes like this,” CEO Mikael Hed writes in a blog post today, “but it is better to do them sooner rather than later, when we are in a good place to reignite growth.”

China regulator approves Apple’s iPhone 6 for sale in China

By Paul Carsten BEIJING (Reuters) – Apple Inc’s iPhone 6 can now be sold in China, after the firm received a license for the device to be used on China’s wireless networks. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on its website on Tuesday that it had approved the iPhone 6 after Apple addressed potential security risks that could allow personal data to leak. The iPhone 6 had been released in other countries, including the United States, on September 19 but Apple did not give a release data for China. …

Top U.S. regulators warn banks over ‘Shellshock’ bug

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A group of top U.S. financial regulators urged banks to quickly fix their software to protect it against the “Shellshock” computer bug, saying it could expose them to fraud. Shellshock is a newly emerged major Internet threat that affects a common software tool found in many operating systems known as Bash, or Bourne-again Shell. “The pervasive use of Bash and the potential for this vulnerability to be automated presents a material risk,” the Federal Financial Institutions Examinations Council said. …

TAIPEI (Reuters) – The Taiwanese government is investigating whether Xiaomi Inc , China’s leading smartphone company by domestic shipments, is a cyber security threat and will make a decision within three months. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the investigation could lead to any ban for Xiaomi’s low-priced smartphones in Taiwan. Some Xiaomi phones automatically send user data to the firm’s servers in Beijing, where the company is headquartered, potentially leading to security breaches, according to a statement posted on the website of Taiwan’s executive branch on Tuesday. …
