Mayor of Los Angeles suburb of Bell Gardens shot dead

By Steve Gorman LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The mayor of a small Los Angeles suburb was shot dead by his wife on Tuesday but the woman was released without charge after being detained, the county sheriff’s department said. The shooting at Bell Gardens stemmed from an afternoon quarrel between the mayor, Daniel Crespo, 45, and his wife, Levette, 43, that escalated when their 19-year-old son, Daniel Jr., intervened, sheriff’s spokeswoman Crystal Hernandez said. …

AEG asks for more time to lure pro football team back to Los Angeles

Johnson (Reuters) – Developer Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) asked Los Angeles on Monday to give it more time to lure a pro football team back to the city and start building a $1.2 billion stadium downtown. Los Angeles has been without professional football since 1994 when the Rams and the Raiders both left, to the dismay of legions of fans. AEG signed a deal with city authorities in 2012 to sign up a National Football League (NFL) team by Oct. 18 this year, build the new “Farmer’s Field” stadium and improve the aging Los Angeles Convention Center. … …read more
