Will Convicted Boston Bomber’s Sad Face be Enough to Spare His Life?

Screen Shot 2015-05-14 at 9.12.05 PMIt seems as though convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s attitude may be changing. After sitting stone-faced throughout the majority of the trial, he allegedly apologized to Catholic nun Sister Helen Prejean. It was a dramatic turn of events for the man who prosecutors claimed to be on a mission to inflict as much damage as possible. Tsarnaev’s lawyers tried to paint their client as a confused boy who was caught in the crosshairs of a domineering older brother, stating cultural tradition to follow older siblings. Tsarnaev has shown little emotion throughout the trial, leading others to question the sincerity of any apology.

The biggest exception in trial occurred when his emotional aunt testified. Tsarnaev appeared to wipe his eyes of tears. Sister Prejean has consoled many death row inmates before. The story of her experiences was made famous in the book Dead Man Walking, which was later adapted into an Oscar winning film.
