DirecTV keeps NFL Sunday Ticket in $1.5 billion a year deal

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – DirecTV extended its exclusive contract to sell the Sunday Ticket package of National Football League games, and sources said the company will pay $1.5 billion a year to keep the popular offering that has helped attract subscribers. The satellite TV provider and the league announced a multi-year deal on Wednesday. Sources familiar with the agreement said DirecTV’s annual payments would average $1.5 billion for eight years. …

EU says Ireland tax deal with Apple was state aid

In a letter written in June but published only on Tuesday, European Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia told the Dublin government that tax deals agreed in 1991 and 2007 appeared, in his preliminary view, to amount to state aid that broke EU laws and could be clawed back from the U.S. company. …

Afghans prepare to sign deal with U.S. allowing troops to stay

KABUL (Reuters) – Afghanistan’s new government led by President Ashraf Ghani was on Tuesday due to sign a long-delayed bilateral security agreement with the United States that will allow U.S. troops to stay beyond the end of this year when their combat mission ends. Ghani’s predecessor, Hamid Karzai, had long refused to agree to the deal, citing his anger over civilian deaths and his belief that the war was not fought in the interests of his country, souring his ties with the United States. …

Lenovo says $2.1 billion IBM x86 server deal to close on Wednesday

BEIJING (Reuters) – Lenovo Group Ltd will close its acquisition of International Business Machines Corp’s x86 server division on Oct 1 for $2.1 billion, giving China’s biggest personal computer maker a major asset as it expands its offerings for business clients. The closing purchase price is lower than the $2.3 billion valuation announced in January because of a change in the valuation of inventory and deferred revenue liability, Lenovo said. Telecom Italia says will review Argentina unit sale deal

MILAN (Reuters) – The board of Telecom Italia has asked its management to look at possible changes to an agreement to sell its controlling stake in Telecom Argentina to U.S. investment company Fintech, the Italian company said on Friday. The Italian group agreed the $960 million deal nearly a year ago but closing of the sale has come in doubt because it has not yet been cleared by regulators. In a statement, Telecom Italia said talks with Fintech to modify the deal will take into account the regulatory delays and be based on a term sheet providing guarantees to Telecom Italia. …
